Working in a frame shop is a lot like working in a ceramics studio. Handiwork, production mode, evaluating completed tasks, considering all facets of the job to be done; from the questionable "Art" - to the choice in mat board, frame, fillet, glass - the options are endless: all of these decisions are to provide someone with a product that enhances a customers daily experience (even if it means framing their map to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro for bragging rights).
This little conversation with a fellow classmate of mine sums somethings up in a quick and dirty way.
"grad school trains you to be insecure thus needing to work extra hard to earn recognition." - Patricia Fancher
Southern Intentions is an art and dinning project created to draw metaphors between the acts of making and seeing art to the acts of preparing and enjoying a meal. This collaboration is between printmaking artist Adrienne Lichliter from Texas, potter Brent Pafford from South Carolina, and chef Lindsey Byrd from Louisiana. Our intention is to bring three separate art forms together through Southern cuisine. Guests are served a special fried chicken dinner on a set of three handmade ceramic dishes created exclusively for the evening. Guests take home their ceramic dish set and, six weeks following the June 6 event, will expect mailed a limited edition lithographic print generated from the meal’s oily residues. The dinner will be held at the artist residency of 100 West in the Third Floor Encampment Studio. A show of Pafford's ceramics and Lichliter's paper works will be exhibited in the 100W Gallery.
That went by fast - maybe I will dedicate more time to my web presence now?
This is going to be somewhat of a journey, allow me mistakes.
I have moved to Clemson, SC to attend none other than Clemson University in pursuit of my MFA. This is a way that I hope to keep track of my experience here.
I have been in Clemson for a little over a month. Its different, it's orange, it's new.
